Platform Pillars

Community Town Hall

It is the belief of Willie J Lightfoot that the purpose of government is to serve the needs and address the concerns of the community, and not to put up barriers between the bureaucracy and the governed.  That is why in his first 100 days in office, Willie Lightfoot will hold a community town hall meeting.  This meeting will serve to cultivate an environment in which our community members are encouraged to share their vision for change in their neighborhoods, build a greater understanding of issues directly affecting their families and homes, and start a dialogue in which all voices are heard.  Being a representative of this fine community is more than sitting in an office and attending closed door meetings.  It is about transparency, shared goals, and building a better Rochester for our families now, and for generations to come.

Public Safety

Our men and women in uniform, both RPD and RFD risk their lives every day to keep our community safe.  It is our responsibility to make sure that they have the resources they need to do the best possible jobs they can.  The community truly values the dedication and service these individuals provide for us every day, which is why we must continue to build communication between community members and our first responders, as well as to keep advocating for a diverse city workforce.

Economic Development

We all want the best future for our families, not just now, but for generations.  This starts with sustainable economic development at the local level.  As City Councilman, Willie Lightfoot will create "Street Champions" to spearhead development.  The Jefferson Avenue Revive Project is an example of good interaction between government and community members, as well as seeking initiatives to spark growth in the downtown area.

Youth Development

We live in a rapidly evolving world.  Nowhere is this more apparent than in the newest generations of our community.   When we invest in our young people, we invest not only in their future, but in OUR future.  It is therefore imperative that we take the time and put forth the effort to understand, connect, and positively impact the lives of these valued members of our neighborhoods, by creating new and exciting opportunities for mentorship, providing alternatives to negative lifestyles through creative outlets like music and art, and by offering the possibility to make positive and long lasting choices.  For over 10 years, Willie has managed and run the “Cut the Violence” events throughout the city, and will continue to do so.  Willie will also support the current Operation Transformation Initiative, by making sure every child has a mentor and a goal.  We owe it to our young men and women, and to our families to know and acknowledge that everyone has the potential for greatness.

Senior Assistance

Just as we must cultivate our young people, we must also make sure that our senior community is celebrated, and not forgotten.  As City Councilman, Willie Lightfoot will seek new ways to advocate for the health, safety and well being of our seniors.  To make sure that no one gets left out in the cold, Willie will work to ensure that senior living facilities are adequate and inclusive.

Small Businesses/Micro Businesses

Willie Lightfoot will work to create tax incentives for small/micro business development, as well as reevaluate city sold tax liens.  As a small business owner himself, Willie understands the importance of providing these opportunities to members of our community as a way to promote growth.

Constituant Services:

A priority for Willie Lightfoot is making sure that every voice is heard.  This starts with an attentive and active City Councilman.  By making sure every phone call is answered/returned within 2 business days, and being accessible and approachable via phone, in person or via website.  This also includes but is not limited to having an semi annual news letter to report on progress made in our communities.
